We started in a garage in Rancho Santa Margarita with one goal: build whole-house fans that were honest about their specs, built to last, and backed by people who actually answer the phone. Nineteen years later, we manufacture two brands — Centric Air and QA Deluxe — out of the same Rancho Santa Margarita facility. We never moved.
Comfort Cool was founded in 2007 by David Goodbrand in a garage in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. The timing was deliberate: David had spent the previous five years running Goodbrand Lending in Mission Viejo, and as the 2006–2008 mortgage industry collapse unfolded, he decided to pivot into manufacturing something tangible.
His background was practical, not academic-only. He had worked as a Ford auto technician, moved into Bank of America management, and earned a BA in Finance from California State University, Long Beach and an MBA from California State University, Fullerton. That mix — hands-on mechanical work plus business operations — turned out to be the right shape for building a manufacturing company from the ground up during a recession.
The company manufactures two distinct brands out of our Rancho Santa Margarita, California headquarters — the same location where it was founded: Centric Air, the premium line with a 15-year motor warranty, and QA Deluxe, the value line with a 10-year motor warranty. Both are CEC Title 24 certified, both are HVI-916 rated for airflow, and both are assembled in our California facility.
Our commitment hasn't changed since the garage: every CFM number on the site is independently tested. Every warranty term is documented. Every support call is answered by a real person.

David is the founder and owner of Comfort Cool, Inc. His career path before Comfort Cool: Ford auto technician → management at Bank of America → owner of Goodbrand Lending in Mission Viejo (2002–2008). When the mortgage industry collapsed during the 2006–2008 financial crisis, he pivoted into whole-house fan manufacturing.
He holds a BA in Finance from California State University, Long Beach, and an MBA from California State University, Fullerton.
Comfort Cool is a proud sponsor of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Every CFM number on our site was measured by an independent California Energy Commission testing lab and rated to the HVI-916 standard. We've never self-reported a spec, and we never will. If we can't back it up with a third-party test, we don't publish it.
Every support call, email, and chat is handled by someone who actually works here. We've never used a call center. We've never used a script service. When you call, you reach someone who knows these fans and can answer any question.
Centric Air and QA Deluxe are designed and assembled in our Rancho Santa Margarita, California facility. Supply chain transparency is part of the product.
Small team. Big impact. We build things that work and we explain them honestly. If that appeals to you, we'd love to hear from you.
